  1. A—Licorice almost always contains gluten.
  2. B—Only the Nacho Cheese flavor contains gluten.
  3. B—French fries can be cross contaminated if placed in the same oil as onion rings.
  4. B—Pure herbs and spices do not contain gluten, but packets of spices often do.
  5. A—Gravy packets almost always contain gluten. You will pretty much need to make your own gravy.

  7. B—As in vitamins and supplements, gluten can be an excellent binder in medications as well.
  8. C—Tortilla chips are corn based and very unlikely to have gluten.
  9. A—So many beauty products contain gluten. Lip gloss and eye shadow are chief offenders, but hair dye, shampoo, lotion, and hair spray can also be irritating to those sensitive to gluten.
  10. C—If it’s gluten free and safe to eat, Chex® will say so on the box. They have an entire line of gluten free cereal available to eat.
  11. B—Not all brands of potato chips are gluten free. Scrutinize labels.
  12. C—Cheese products, even processed cheese products, should not generally contain gluten.
  13. A—Most pre-made hot chocolate contains gluten. Always make your own to be on the safe side.
  14. C—Marshmallows do not contain gluten.
  15. B—It’s really the imitation crab meat that you have to look out for in the prepackaged sushi you can find at the supermarket. (In my opinion, imitation crab meat is gross and you’re better off not eating it.) However, if you go to a sushi restaurant, you should be able to find gluten free items on the menu. Always ask questions and make sure that your server understands your needs.

As you can see, gluten is not straightforward at all. It’s sly and subtle. Don’t make assumptions and let your guard down. You will need to be vigilant in order to successfully avoid it.
